Detaily

Skladatel: Franz Liszt

• A selection of rarely recorded piano pieces by Franz Liszt, which were composed both as orchestral and piano works - played by one of today’s most interesting pianists. As an eagerly anticipated follow-up to his début album, which featured works by Bach, Ligeti and a piece of his own composition, Kit Armstrong has now recorded works by Franz Liszt for his second CD for Sony Classical.Franz Liszt was not only well known as a piano virtuoso and masterful composer but also for his brilliant transcriptions, including arrangements of his own works. Kit Armstrong has long been in love with Liszt's music had a desire to champion works by the composer that are not all that well known, especially among his orchestral works, for which a number of these incredible pieces of music also exist in piano transcriptions that Liszt himself prepared. The focus is on the better known Mephisto Waltzes No. 1-3 (with No. 3 being the only piece that Liszt wrote for piano only, but which was later arranged by Alfred Reisenauer for orchestra). The first Mephisto Waltz is paired with “Midnight Procession” – both of them originally composed for the symphonic work “Two episodes from Lenau’s Faust”.In addition to this, Armstrong plays “The Funeral Triumph of Tasso” which is an epilogue to the symphonic poem “Tasso”, composed as an overture to Johann Wolfgang von Goethe’s same-titled drama.“Salve Polonia” on the other hand belongs to the oratorio “Saint Stanislaus”, Liszt’s final, unfinished composition.ABOUT KIT ARMSTRONG"One of the most interesting pianists and composers", wrote the German daily DIE WELT.All-round talent Kit Armstrong was born in Los Angeles in 1992 and started composing at five and shortly after that began piano studies. From his seventh year he also studied natural sciences at various universities, later earned his master’s degree in pure maths at the University.
