• Paavo Järvi and the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen, winner of international prizes such as the Gramophone Award Orchestra of the Year 2023 and the Opus Klassik 2024, present their new project: the complete recording of Franz Schubert's symphonies. By looking at Schubert - who combined classical beauty of form with great emotional depth, paving the way for 19th century Romanticism - from a 21st century perspective, their interpretation allows the composer's forward-looking and innovative spirit to emerge particularly clearly. After the first album last year with Symphonies No. 4 & 7, the second part of the Schubert cycle is now being released with Symphonies 5 and 6. The two symphonies were written in 1817-1818, when Schubert was still around twenty years old. Composed for an orchestra without timpani and brass, Symphony No. 5 is easily accessible, full of charm and cheerful serenity. In contrast, Symphony No. 6 is lively, dramatic and humorous and clearly reflects the influence of Gioachino Rossini's operas, which were particularly popular in Vienna at the time of its composition. Under the direction of Paavo Järvi, the Deutsche Kammerphilharmonie Bremen impressively brings out the independent character of each of the two symphonies in a historically informed performance practice.
