• Hello, I'm Johnny Cash was released just 7 months after the massive hit record Live At San Quentin, which was still riding high in the charts. Because of the San Quentin album, "Hello" tends to be overlooked, but it's arguably one of the best albums in the Cash discography. It is fueled by superb original Cash songs and well executed covers. It contains "See Ruby Fall" (co-written with Roy Orbison, and featuring his wife June on vocals) and one of his best '70s hits, "Blistered."
• The lean, minimalist instrumentation of the Tennessee Three (with Bob Wootton on lead guitar, replacing Luther Perkins who died in a house fire in 1968) ensures the album has great rhythm, leaving Johnny Cash's voice as effective as ever. The album itself reached No. 1 on the country charts and No. 6 on the pop charts.
