Detaily

Žánr: Klasika

Skladatel: Johannes Brahms

• American pianist Nicholas Angelich gave his first concert at the age of seven and at 13 entered the Conservatoire de Paris, where he won major prizes in the Robert Casadesus (1989) and Gina Bachauer (1994) competitions. He is noted in both Romantic and Modern repertoire and his special mastery of Brahms is well documented on Warner Classics and Erato. In this release of Brahms Piano Concertos Nos. 1 & 2, Angelich's performances 'are of a wholly exceptional drama, sweep and impeccable craftsmanship... among the finest recordings of Brahmss formidable masterpieces.' (Gramophone) Brahms wrote two piano concertos, whose composition marked significant points in his career. The first, undertaken in 1854 and completed in 1858, is the work of a young composer of around 20 who had recently received encouragement from Robert Schumann. The second, a magisterial, lyrical piece of his maturity worked out between 1878 and 1881 at Presbaum in the countryside outside Vienna, is one of the undisputed masterpieces of an acknowledged master. Brahms himself was the pianist at the first performance on November 9, 1881, in Budapest. Piano Concerto No. 1, in its wild romanticism, is the expression of the composers northern temperament, spontaneously frank and tender, and of his impulsiveness, giving the work the character of a large-scale fresco with an imposing orchestra (including double winds, four horns, two trumpets, and tympani). Noticeably more serene and optimistic than Concerto No. 1, Piano Concerto No.2 is also more virtuosic, though its virtuosity is never gratuitous and always subservient to freedom of invention and lyrical expansiveness, even in the lively outer movements.
